LAIKA Fabrication Portfolio
In the live-action/stop-motion hyrbid film Lizard, Lizard, I recreated the live-action set as a stop motion set.
My stop-motion contributions above: Build room (five removable flats), apply textures, color match and paint, make props, paint images inside frames, make foliage, repaint small ceramics, wire practical lighting, set dress.
I made dozens of tiny realistic vines for Lizard, Lizard. These are made of the tips of the roots from a shallow-rooted vine, plus its thick and waxy dried leaves cut into smaller pieces, and glued together with UHU. These were durable and flexible.
Life cast and mold making
I work as a freelance SFX artist specializing in life casting and mold making for film and theater. My practice focuses on casting real bodies, producing both one-part and two-part molds using a range of professional techniques. I oversee the entire fabrication process (with an assistant present for safety), including applying alginate to the body, constructing the plaster mother mold, pigmenting and slush-casting silicone or pouring silicone and expanding foam, finishing and painting the surface, and applying hair through wigs and individually punched facial hairs. I also can make two-part molds and include armature inside.
Life-sized animatable flower man
I built this life-sized animatable flower man, capable of sitting, standing, and dancing. It has an armature wire and chicken wire base, with low-expansion polyurethane foam, adorned a mixture and fake and real foliage.
I was also the Production Designer for the film.
